Emotionless Logic

You have always two paths in life. Emotion or Logic. Sometimes called Heart or Brain. As always, we call for balance. As always, we usually fail at balancing. So which path does one generally fall on?

I didn’t even care about balance. Wait, I did. 6 years back. I was an idealist. No longer. I thought about it when I was 15. Emotions or logic. I chose logic. And I changed.

I wanted to be a rock. A solid stone unshakable even in the most tormenting storm. The kinds that will stand stoic, unmovable in imminent danger. I’m not a physically strong person. I didn’t bother much about my physical fitness and stuff. But I wanted to be strong mentally and I worked on it.

No tears in sorrow. No shivers in fear. No grimaces from pain. No reaction to surprise or shock. It’s preparation for every worst possible scenario. It goes further than preparation. It’s expectation. It works. Mentally, I’ve been able to face nearly everything. The only thing that had shook me was my cat’s death. That lasted for no more than 2 hours. Walled myself up. Strengthen the mind. Emotions dissolve and I’m back to buisness.

Things happen for a reason don’t they? Emotions are simply reactions to such events and they are usually needless reactions. The global financial meltdown we now face. Suicides. Rash relationships. Insane (literally) people. Cry babies. Murders. Phobias. Fights. The list goes on. All caused by emotional feedback? Check.

Now if these people took a moment’s breath and thought about the repercussions of their actions. Would they have done the same?

“Easy to say la but hard to do”.

I’ll prove that wrong. If one is able to keep his mind clear in all given situations. If one is able to think and follow a logical path for the greater societal good even in the most emotional scenario, then does one stand out from the rest. Then is one worthy to be counted on.

Do we really need emotional people? What do they bring to our society? The human touch? I call it the touch of human madness. The failure of a logical system that the world runs on. Does the sun rise when it likes to? Does rain come based on a dice roll? No. And that’s why the earth is habitable.

The emotional people on this planet are dragging down progress. Heck, they might be even causing digress. You may say I lack a heart. But you do not lose your feelings when you take the logical path. You simply control your feelings and channel it in a logical way to maximize the benefit received by those around you.

When someone scolds you and you do not retaliate. Instead, you analyze the content that the person has said and draw out the relevant points that may be useful to you. The energy you would have spent retaliating has now been successfully channeled into self improvement. And on top of that you do not add fuel to a burning bush.

So, is logic that bad?

Those on the emotional camp. Sit up and try to think. What are you offering to the world? (Besides the burden that the logical ones have to shoulder thanks to your inability to think with your mind instead of your heart.)
